How can you restart a dropped download in Google Chrome?

I was downloading a 1.4 GB movie overnight. The download stopped on 1.2 GB. (I'm guessing because my scheduled virus scan ran.) I went back into the download link and clicked on that again, figuring it would pick up where it left off. That's what Windows would do when it manages the download. But when I did this with the Google Chrome download manager it only started a new download. Then I went into the download manager and couldn't understand anything more there. There's only the options to cancel and remove from list. I tried cancel because I've seen before it becomes "retry download", and clicked on that. Nothing happened. And when I looked in my Downloads folder the download was gone. So that obviously wasn't the way to restart a download. Is there a way to restart a dropped download here, or is it a lost cause?

Google Chrome has a "pause" feature when downloading it. If you close it, a popup should appear asking are you sure if you want to close it as it will cancel your downloads. The options it shows you means that it has been cancelled, not paused. Sorry for your loss!
