How long does an alto saxophone mouthpiece last?

Alto saxophone mouthpiece for beginner?

  • I am a beginner in Alto saxophone. I dropped the mouthpiece which came with my sax. I bought the Rico C7 mouthpiece. I think I bought the wrong one for beginner like me. I need to blow harder to get the sound. Which one should I buy ? While searching internet I found "Yamaha 4C Alto Saxophone Mouthpiece"is good for beginner. But I am confuse.

    Do not use that mouthpiece, a Rico 7 is a really really open mouthpiece. Don't ever go back to the shop that sold you that if possible, they obviously don't care about giving you something playable. The yamaha 4C is a very good suggestion, but getting a Rico A3 wouldn't be a bad idea either. I'd personally recommend the yamaha 4C though. Vandoren Optimum AL3/Selmer C* would be better choices, but they are also much more expensive, and you won't notice the quality difference for a few years. I'll put a link to all of these mouthpieces in the sources

i don't think the mouthpiece matters much. but the reed on the other hand is a different story. i started out with a 2. you might need to go a little lower though.
