What steps can I take to hopefully get a state-licensed home daycare with horrible violations to go under?
-
My daughter was in a horrible situation at a daycare that is state-licensed. There are no complaints on file, we researched it, visited, and once she was there dropped in at odd times. Recently found out the owner (she has a fulltime and parttime employee) was leaving for hours at a time at times when parents would not usually be coming by (mid morning, midafternoon). A provider was left alone with 17 kids including infants and toddlers and only was discovered because a parent came by at an odd time to pick a kid up for a doctor's appointment. It was witnessed by another parent who that parent called as well. About half the parents, including us, pulled our kids immediately. We have reported her to the state, but the owner is really sneaky. She used to work in the office where the daycares are inspected, and some complaints that should be on file have gone "missing." So, we have reported her, but so far they haven't found any violations. This woman is not responsible, should not be caring for kids, and doesn't care that she was endangering our children. She is just mad because now she has lost money since about six kids were pulled. I would love to get this daycare to go under, because I don't think this woman should be caring for kids. Obviously I want the action to be legally allowed. Aside from reporting her to the state and letting all the parents know what we have found so they might all pull their kids, are there any other steps anyone can think to take?

Answer:
If she is a state registered daycare, you can look on the DSS webstie and find the DSS worker assigned to the daycare and talk to her. Have th eother parents do the same thing. Also, if google, daycare reviews there are all kinds of websties that allow parents to write revreiew online for other parents that are researching. You should find as many as possible and leave horrible reviews on them. I agree with you, this woman should not be watching kids. It is so scary leaving our kids at daycares to begin with so it's just horrible to hear of something like this. She should be shut down and good for you for trying to do so.

You could sue her, but you need a lot of proof of wrong doing with your child. I think reporting her to the state was the right action, but if you are not careful in how you proceed, you can be charged with harrassment. Other than suing her, I would leave the matter to the state now. Even continuing to go to any new parents she might get can land you in trouble. You did what you needed to do, you reported her and pulled your kids. You can't harass her. It is now a state matter.
