I want to disconnect from the news. How?
-
I'm an naturally inquisitive person but I hate all the politics and bias in the media. I'm curious but I really don't care what Kim and Paris are doing. I really don't care who's dress was too much or how Whitney died. And all the petty little squabbling of politicians drives me crazy. I'm a moderate libertarian and know that all these politicians are working to take away my freedoms. I don't watch the news and have stopped listening to the radio but my biggest problem is the constant barrage of "News" online. I need an email that doesn't try to shot gun me with "news stories" or fluff. I'm interested in fiction, science, history, mathematics, philosophy, photography, psychology, creative writing as well as dozens of other fields of study. I do a good job of avoiding the blitz but Yahoo and other email places always sucker me in. Is there an email without where you don't get hit over the head with "News."? I'm also looking for other ways to disconnect from the conformist mainstream media -- and any other type of media -- and would appreciate some other ideas on how to get it out of my life. TIA Wow! Talk about propaganda. I'm a moderate so I can see abuses on both sides. Both Republicans and Democrats are working to take away our rights. Dems are only for Liberal rights: they are constantly working to take away what they think of as Conservative rights. The Republicans do the opposite. Both groups are working to take away your rights equally. Talk about brainwashing! The dems passed the Patriot act again after Prez Obama took office. And look at his "Health care" bill. Requiring all Americans to have insurance!?! Can't you see clear enough to see that is an erosion of your liberty? If you tell a man a lie often enough it becomes the truth. Evidently, Herbie you've heard the dems lies much more than a thousand times. You no longer questions anything from them. Bush left office almost 4 years ago and you can't see that Obama governed more like Bush than unlike him.

Answer:
It's good that you see that there is little difference between Dems and Reps. Keep working to screen out the lies and reduce exposure to the media. Look into Gmail. I don't recall them having media blitz their email homepage. But I could be wrong. Learn where the slag comes from on certain pages that you can't avoid and keep your eyes focused on your mailbox when you go there. The brainwashing is very slick. 99% of people in the US fall for it. Maybe make Pinterest your homepage. 99% of pins are non-political. I don't have any real tips for you than just keep trying to reduce the clutter of brain rotting material. Hope that helps. Smile

First, you are believing too much of the sensationalist news if you really believe that ALL politicians are working to take away your freedoms. Your freedom is more at risk because politicians are now legally able to accept commercial sponsoring. I would be concerned that this alone could affect my democratic rights, because nobody gives money away for nothing. Yes, politicians argue and squabble, but that is what is good about democracy, I would start to worry if they all agreed with each other because then I would know something was wrong. The last time that all US politicians did this was shortly after 9/11, when GW Bush said "You are either with us or with the terrorists". The result was the "Patriot Act", which, at a stroke, threw all your constitutional rights out the window. The meaning of the word "torture" was also redefined by the legal department of the Bush administration, to protect them from any possible future legal action. Strange that not so long after this, a weekly TV programme called "24" also appeared in the US screens, with the first episode being shown on 6th November 2001. This concept drama starring Kiefer Sutherland as "Jack Bauer", dealt with anti-terrorism with a multitude of different terrorist plots. The main character regularly used different forms of torture (every week), in order to gain vital information. Do you really think this was coincidence ? or was 20th Century Fox Television working on behalf of the Bush administration, to subconciously get the American people used to the idea that torture is an acceptable way of attaining information ? You don't really need to stop reading or watching the news. Just learn to filter out the bull ! Propaganda only works if you are dumb enough to believe it ! So be very wary, very wary indeed.
