  • Answer:

Different countries have different versions. In the UK an acting school offers classes which children attend on a weekly (usually) basis, for a few hours at a time. Many also offer classes for teenagers and also to adults. They're usually held in the late afternoons, evenings and at weekends, although some also offer longer sessions in school holidays. Some of these anyone can attend as long as they pay, others have mini-auditions to let the teachers assess if you have enough potential to learn anything. But even these out-of-school classes usually like their students to be well-educated. If you aren't very academic, it's unlikely that you'd be able to learn enough to become a good actor. Actors have to be able to understand very complex scripts instantly, read Shakespeare and stuff like that without needing anyone to explain it to them, and have a very wide general knowledge. A drama school is on the same level as a university. They do three-year courses, which you attend full-time. To get into any of them you'd have to have great school grades and many years of attending acting classes, singing lessons and dance classes. Getting a place at any of those is very difficult - they each get about 4,000 applicants for only 24 places every year. The thinking behind wanting acting students to have good grades is that kids who don't work really hard at school and aren't very clever don't usually make very good actors. That sounds harsh, but it's true. Acting well takes real intelligence and very hard work. And by the way - genuine actors are not interested in being famous - that's just a naive kids' dream.

they tend to cover singing, dancing and acting. Some run on weekends and after school. Others are proper schools. You half a day of performing and half a day of proper lessons like maths and english.
