My lcd monitor turns itself off?

My Acers when turned on display a no signal message on the screen (and a green power light) until they receive a video signal from the computer. If that isn't there it is a monitor motherboard or power supply problem. (You now have a paperweight, as the monitor would cost more to repair than to replace.) If that is there, it is a video input problem. (cable, computer video output, or monitor video input, which might be repairable if the problem is in the cable itself)
