What is causing an allergic reaction?

Is my medication causing an allergic reaction?

  • I have recently been prescribed 'Accutane Isotretinoin' to help treat my acne, about 4 weeks into the course I woke up in the morning and I had suddenly come up with these little red itchy spots from my neck to my cheeks. Before blaming my medication straight away, the previous night I applied a new moisturiser in the same area the red little spots appeared, before going to bed. Also I have had no problems with the medication before. Is it even possible to have a late reaction to medication if you have been taking it for weeks? If it was the medication causing the reaction surely it wouldn't just be in one area, surely it would be spread over the body? So I'm am very confused whether its the medication causing the reaction or the moisturiser, I can't afford to miss days of my medication, so i've carried on taking them, but i've stopped using the moisturiser. Should I wait to see if it goes or see my dermatologist?

  • Answer:

It sounds to me like the moisturiser is the problem. If it was the medicine causing it you would have a rash all over your body.
