How To Apply To Maharashtra Scholarship Online?

Help! I'm on a scholarship panel to thank the donors of my scholarship. Should I tell them I had a baby?

  • Okay so next week there is an honorary breakfast for the donors of a scholarship that I won and since I have a high GPA I am on a panel and will be asked questions like: "how did the scholarship help you?", etc. When I applied for the scholarship I was pregnant, so obviously it has helped me not only attend school, but use the money I would have spent on education for raising my son. I feel that his birth was a huge obstacle as I continued to go to class (3 days after I gave birth), so I really don't know whether or not I should bring it up. Would it sound bad if I said that my son was born if I didn't mention in the scholarship essay that I was pregnant? Wouldn't it kind of sound like the scholarship is supporting my son rather than putting me through school? I never miss class and I'm on the dean's list, so I feel that it would be like lying if I didn't mention it. ps. I don't actually GET the scholarship money. It just goes straight to tuition. (just so that people don't think I'm using scholarship money to buy diapers)

  • Answer:

It is not for Mr. Busch or a scholarship organization to sit in judgment on the decisions you made for your personal life. If scholarships were only given to students who were already assured of being a success, then what would be the point? Most organizations establish scholarships precisely because they want to give a hand to students who otherwise might not make it. If I were sitting on the scholarship committee, I think I would actually feel that I made the right decision in awarding you a scholarship. Many students in your situation drop out of college when the going gets rough and never go anywhere in life. Your determination to continue your education despite the difficulty of going to school and raising a newborn tells me that you are apt to be a success and that my organization's money was well invested. Concerning the panel, you probably should not go into a lot of detail, but I think it would be good to let them know what a difference their money has made in your life, and how their support of your education has given you and your child a chance for a brighter future.
