How to connect dish hd receiver?

How can i connect my dish network receiver to a computer monitor if there is no coaxial connection?

  • Ok so we recently bought a Samsung Computer monitor for my son to use as a tv(screen), we previously had one hooked up but it was older so it had other hook ups. So I guess its best described like this : His tv is the second one connected to our dish network receiver so he has to use a coaxial cable to connect to the tv. But the monitor has only a Dvi or Hdmi connection. Can i connect the dish receiver to a Dvd player ( using coaxial cable) and the Dvd player to the monitor ( Hdmi to Hdmi)? Confusing!! I would just get another receiver but they said i had to buy it & not for $140. And Dish network being so oldschool cant come up with an easier way to hook up a second tv except using coaxial cable, I mean cant they just put more Hdmi connections on back or something. No they want to charge people another fee for second receiver to receive HD picture.

  • Answer:

If you have a DVD recorder with tuner, yes you can do that. You can get what is called a VGA TV tuner, which is a box to tune TV signals and connect to a VGA monitor and PC speakers. Those boxes also have PC VGA/audio pass through. Another option may be to get a TV instead of a computer monitor. Most TVs can be used as computer monitors. I recently got one for my music room I use to watch lessons online from a computer, but also to watch TV with. I got a 24" LED, with a 1080P native screen.
