Typically though the commission on a car is 20 to 25% of the profit and since the average car only sells for $1,000 over invoice then they make between $200 to $250 for every car sold. In your example, the guy that sells the Tahoe may make less than the guy that sold the Camaro even though the Tahoe was nearly 50% more. The average salesman will only sell 8 to 10 vehicles per month so this is not a job where you can expect to get rich.
