I accidentally pressed the panic button at work?
-
I was sitting down for a few minutes as it had been really busy and I saw the red button and thought it was something to do with the till as nobody had informed me of there being a panic button. I pressed it a few times then continued on with my work. 15 minutes later the cops arrived. I said I had leant on the button and apologised. They left. Could I get in trouble for this as there is CCTV by my till & I'm still on probation for the job. It probably looks like i did it on purpose! I did press the button purposefully though that will show on the CCTV which I'm worried about but I didn't know what it was. Stupid of me I know. But I did say I didn't even know we had a panic button. I don't know if they'll take it any further as the supervisor was the only one present, I don't know if she'll tell the manager

Just tell them the truth. Judging by the body language in the cctv you'll have it examined and you'll be fine.

That's funny because I like to press buttons. They are gonna see what you did on the camera anyway. You thought it was for the till so you shouldnt get into too much trouble. They will probably just tell you to ask about things like that instead of just pushing buttons.

You were not told of it's existence, so to be fair you have alerted the bosses of a flaw in the security arrangements, for example, you or another employee could have been robbed at gunpoint or worse, so thankfully, everyone can now be informed for future reference . Well done!
