Does a medical assistant with an associates degree make more than a certified medical assistant with no degree?

If I get my associates degree in becoming a medical assistant, what exactly can I do, im not a nurse right ?

  • Answer:

I am guessing you haven't started the degree yet? They will cover the scope of practice with you. Generally, you can give shots like vaccinations, do some basic assessment techniques like hearing tests, weight, eye exams, blood pressure, vitals, plus intradermal injections, enter information into the chart, help with procedures, etc. http://www.medicalassistantprograms.net/articles/medical-assistant-vs-nurse I disagree with the pay scale, but that is probably the area I am in pays LPNs less due to the amount of nursing schools we have.

If you don't know the difference between a nurse and a medical assistant then you'd never be able to make it as a nurse. That's like asking if you get an associate degree to be a paralegal if you can be a judge.

People who go through nursing programs are nurses. People who go through medical assisting programs are medical assistants. Why on earth would you think otherwise? I strongly suggest you talk to an academic advisor if you can't figure these things out for yourself.

One has nothing to do with the other. Nursing is an entirely different thing from medical assisting.

No. In order to become a nurse you have to go to school and major in nursing. That is the only way to become a nurse.
