Sims three custom content? HELP?

Alright. So, I bought the sims 3 off of steam, and downloaded a bunch of custom content. I put it into the downloads folder like you're supposed to, then started it up. ANNDD...it didn't show up. I did the tutorial on modthesims, with the mods folder and resource thing and what not.. and it STILL didn't SHOW UP! I tried it multiple times. this is really starting to make me angry!

look it up on youtube, if there is no videos, look it up on ask.com, if there is nothing, then look it up on answers.com, if there is nothing look up: "CUSTOM CONTENT ISN'T SHOWING UP sims 3" or something like that. Hope I could help! PLEASE ANSWER MY SIMS 3 QUESTION :D
