you can uninstall windows live essentials from control panel<programs<uninstall if you wish to use messenger and not to pop up when starts, follow this: when messenger opened click on show menu<tools<options<click on sign in tab<uncheck Automatically run windows live messenger when windows starts and also uncheck allow automatic sign in when connected to internet :D
