Suggest an explanation for the following observation. A solution, which contains one mole of sodium chloride, dissolved in one Kg of water freezes at -3.37 degrees Celcius. This represents 1.81 times the molal depression for a non-ionic substance.

    depression in freezing point = i X Kf X m vant hoff factor , i = experimental value of colligative popery/calculated value of colligative property now calculating depression in freezing point without considering dissociation = Kf X m = 1.86 X 1 = 1.86 but depression we are obtaining in the experiment is 3.37 so i = 3.37/1.86 = 1.81
