Archery for Beginners help?
-
So I live in Maryland and want to pick up archery, but don't know where to begin. I am very confused, i went on the Maryland Archery Association site, and it said I have to have a NAA or NFAA membership before joining the Maryland Archery association. Can someone who has done archery guide me step by step on how to do archery or join.Thanks.

If you are a beginner, this link is the one you need to check out, and book mark. It gives you tips and advice on every aspect of archery, from picking out a bow, to advice on what is needed in the line of equipment to proper shooting form.- http://www.merlinarchery.co.uk/merlin-extras/resource/resource_beginners/beg_home.htm

You have to decide whether you want to begin with compound bows (the one with wheels) or traditional bows (the ones without). Go to your local archery range, and look up archery clubs and see if any of the clubs have instruction.

Hello AP. What id recommend is trying to find an Archery Pro Shop near you, Most Archery shops offer lessons and supply the bow you`ll be shooting. Most lessons are giving on Recurve bows, when youve learned how to shoot correctly you can then look into purchasing a bow for yourself. A bow does need to be fitted to you, your draw length( how far you pull the string back) and your draw weight( how much tension the string has when you pull it back), is most important. Having it fitted to you will make your archery experience the best. its hard to be accurate when a bow dont fit you the right way. So once again, find yourself an Archery Pro shop, ask questions about lessons..Ask about your Draw length and Draw weight....Enjoy this great sport...Best of luck....hope this helps.......15 year target archer

You don't have to join anything, you just need the equipment and a place to practice. You can join later. Learn "instinctive shooting" first, with a long bow or recurve. Do not use wood arrows with a compound bow, they will snap and go into your arm. Buy or borrow a couple good books on the subject. And most importantly, observe others. I have learned a lot by just watching someone do something I wanted to learn about. The best way to begin is start with crappy cheap equipment, like from garage sales, or used stuff at the archery store. Talk to the person who works there. There is a lot of info available on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sc2dxuYd31I&feature=plcp&context=C443f1efVDvjVQa1PpcFMJ06JcvkbZRHLIE--paCpYm6NemMehkMQ%3D

As far a a good bow to start with, I recommend a Parker Blazer. You can buy one brand new, ready to shoot for $399.95, about 1/2 the price of some of the high-end stuff where you pay $800 for just a bow with no sights or rest. The blazer has a ton of built-in adjustment and it has a lifetime warranty. Best of all, it's Made In The USA. http://www.parkerbows.com/index.html http://www.parkerbows.com/compounds.html?action=detail&detailsku=1090
