Is 16 years old too late to join a select club soccer team?
-
I'm live in the southern part of metro Atlanta and I'm considering to play for a club soccer team at age 16: HCSA Thunder Soccer Club. I'm currently a sophomore in high school. I play varsity high school soccer but I have very little chance to play because other players in my team are select club soccer players and my current school has a strong soccer program. I am planning to transfer to a school with a weak soccer program. But I am afraid that the coach would not coach me well. Suddenly, an idea just pop out my head in addition with the idea of transferring to another school. Why don't I join a club soccer team? In addition, my goal is to play NCAA Division III soccer and to accomplish this is to play club soccer, because most coachs, even coaches from NCAA Division III (Non-Scholarship NCAA Division for Academically Competitive and Liberal Arts College), looked at players at club soccer tournaments. But I wondered one thing: Is 16 years old too late to join a select club soccer team?

Answer:
No it's not too late, although I would be careful on transferring to a weaker soccer programme as your main objective is to train and grow as a player and so the competition might be good for you! Moving to a weaker soccer programme will result in you being pushed less well as if getting onto the first team is more difficult it may push you in training to become as good if not better than the current players and therefore make you a first team player. However if you feel after a while your efforts off the pitch are not getting you a place on the team that you deserve then a transfer would then be a good option. Join a soccer team whom will train you well and help you become each your full potential :) 16 is definitely not too late!
