What is university like?

I'm going off to a university this year September. I'm 17 years old turning 18 soon. I don't know anyone since I'm going off to an American University (I live in Canada) I know that every University's different, but i'm talking about it in social terms. Is it similar to high school, but bigger? What was your first day in University like? Can anyone share their experience? Is it easy to make friends in classes?

A college is mainly visiting a college or off campus school for courses. Universities pair same sex individuals to dormatories to live in. Then to courses in the university to attend. They generally don't mix man/woman dormatories unless no choice like the university is full. The alternative is Online University like university of Phoenix.
