How long does it take to get a Permanent Resident Visa under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program?

Can I rent an apartment if I foreigner?

  • If I arrive in Winnipeg with my wife and daughter, could I find an apartment and rent it without a credit card for cash at a first time? (Or with the visa card of foreign bank ) I won’t have a credit card because it’ll take a time of me to provide all papers as a newcomer. But I’ll have enough money for rent. As I heard people need recommendations by Canadian citizen when they’re looking for tenants. Is it true? Unfortunately I don’t know anyone who lives in Winnipeg. I would like to immigrate to Winnipeg by using the Manitoba Nominee Program. Sorry for my poor English. I’m Russiаn. Thank you.

Yes, you can. The best thing to do is just start looking, and if for whatever reason somebody won't take your money, too bad for them. There will be many who will. That you are in Canada, and have gone through customs, means that the government has deemed you legal, and that is the only thing that matters. You may have fewer headaches by renting from an individual as opposed to a large, impersonal company. Here are a couple of places to start looking: http://winnipeg.en.craigslist.ca/apa/ http://winnipeg.kijiji.ca/f-real-estate-apartments-condos-W0QQCatIdZ37 There are MANY Russian renters in Toronto who have gone through what you are going through. Why should Winnipeg be any different?

You have to have your visa before you arrive. Since you will not be able to get a bank account, if you arrive without a visa, you will have to pay more than the basic first and last months rent, probably six months in advance. The first question you will get when job hunting is "What is your status in Canada?" If you do not have a social insurance number they cannot hire you.

Sure you can. Just have enough money. You will need to pay first and last month of rent before you move it. Be sure to ask who pays for power, water etc.
