Are all people with Aspergers the same?

My teacher wants people to search Aspergers Syndrome?

  • Okay, so my teacher is doing a project to where we draw a piece of paper out of a hat, and it says a topic to search, there are alot ofthem, and two of them are Autism and Aspergers Syndrome. I have Aspergers Syndrome. And idk why but it is really upsetting me that someone is going to be researching about Aspergers, or Autism........ Idk why it's bothering me so much, but it is.... And Idk I feel like I want to cry about it.. How dumb is this? Why am I acting this way towards it? And also, I've obsessed with searching about Autism and Aspergers Syndrome. Blah.

  • Answer:

If you just got the assignment, ask your teacher if you could switch to Aspergers for your research project. I think you could provide far better information for your classmates, and it would be great for them to get an "insider's perspective".

I agree with Gina. Furthermore when your classmates are doing their presentations on Asperger's and Autism remember that they will be talking in very general terms. They will be repeating stuff they have found on the internet and in books. They are not describing you - you are an individual, not a syndrome. Try not to get too hung up on researching Asperger's - unless you enjoy it, of course - Asperger's is on a wide spectrum, you are not necessarily going to find anything that relates directly to you and your experiences.

Just think of it as an easy A. When my teacher gave us a long list of mental disabilities to pick from and do a report on, I raised my hand first to make sure I got Asperger's.
