For Big Serious Anime Fans***/Animation Ideas?
-
I love animation:) Anyways, I've been trying to come up with a great storyboard for an American anime and I'd love some ideas. Over time I've realized that there are a lot of Americans who are in love with anime&manga and hate when studios ruin in with horrible voice-overs, changing of the names, lightning of the characters skin and stuff like that. Then there are the Americans who just flat out hate it, think that it's weird...and should stay in Japan. Long story short, I always wonder if studios will ever get the idea to ask the viewers for opinions...or if they'll atleast come up with a good show like Avatar, which has the American/Western vibe but still has the Asian influence(...it atleast has...a little bit). I've realized that in America a lot of the issues that people have with anime is the religious aspect(People are Muslim, Mormon, Christian like me, etc.) So I've been going for a plot that's based around animes like Itazura na kiss, Kanon...and a little bit of Fruit Basket(just a little). Since these are really based around...you know, young people in a high school setting(romance, relationships, school) and they don't have a lot of the sex, violence, and "spiritual" influences that are in most animes. My ideas: the girl (Akira), dark hair, kind of shy, but doesn't put up with just anything. the guy(haven't come up with a name yet...maybe Riku.. but taken by Kingdom Hearts. :( Anyways- he's the best friend, he's good looking, but kind of nerdy, sweeeet beyond measure...and of course Akira likes him but he doesn't know it. The only difference with this is I don't want it to be the typical "Oh she's madly in love with the guy best friend/but she can't tell him/so every girl that he's with, rips at her heart/and she can't manage, because she's the only one who's single and needs a guy to define her." Nope! She's a little more independent than that:) Other details: it's set with the characters in jeans, sweaters and purses, etc. Not the usual cool school uniforms(I know, they should sooo have uniforms!!...but key goals: Asian and American influence) Anyways...I'm stuck... I need help with ideas!!! -best friends? -do's and dont's opinions? -general opinions on this idea?? -settings/home setting/school setting/bakery/movies/library?... you name it! -missing characters!...parents, grandparents...teachers?? ...HELP!... And most of all.. What do you think??( it makes no since whatsoever, to put all this energy...into a senseless idea!) Remember to think: Avatar and Kingdom Hearts...Kekkaishi and idk Princess TuTu?... Anime/American studio...coming together!...as much as it possibly...and realistically can lol:) I'm tired of everyone being biased and close minded....every one should get the best of both worlds... at least a little.. Also big question, can you tell me how realistic this idea is... -Would it ever be green- lit? -Would Americans and Asians come together to work on an animation like this... or would Americans possibly run with this idea...but over time try to make it better and eventually ruin it...like most shows(no offense!) -Would anyone watch this...would you watch this lol?!?! If this is a good idea, then it will certainly be my animation project:)) I know none of you are animators or directors(if you are... that's absolutely amazing!), but you still have minds and opinions. I hoping that no one will be rude on here:)...but I'm looking for truthful opinions, that's why I posted this question! So if you are rude... I'll get past it. P.S.- Sorryyy for this being sooo freakin' longgggg!! ** Also posted this in two different subjects... didn't know if it should go under comics/ animation or drawing/illustration lol.

Answer:
The person who runs all animation at Walt Disney is named Ed Catmull. Before that he headed up the company Pixar (actually he still does, through Walt Disney). He said that the best students of computer animators in the World are at BYU. So therefor I would suggest that when you have your idea completely figured out, then you should contact some animation students at BYU, and see if you they would be willing to make it as a school project. That way you could get it done for free... and it would be really really high quality as well. So keep working on the concept. When you have put it all together and you have whittled it down you might consider contacting some BYU college animation students to help you bring your ideas to life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PjAfwwGJJ4 http://Mormon.org Chat.
