How do you get fleas out of your house?

How can I get rid of fleas on the inside of my house when the outside is infested.?

  • I live in a small house, in a small neighborhood. The fleas here are TERRIBLE! I hate it so much. My dog is miserable and doesn't even act like himself anymore, and I can't get any sleep at night because they crawl all over me and bite me. Today I was going to try to vacuum the house, and spray for fleas, but I have a big problem. Our next door neighbors have 4 pit bulls that are infested with fleas, and the fleas go into our yard and infest our house. I was wondering if there is a way I can flea free my house without having to flea free his dogs too because that isn't my responsibility. Please help, me and my dog are miserable.

  • Answer:

There are yard treatments available at home stores (Home Depot) that may work okay, it's been years since I have given them a try. Diatomaceous earth is a holistic product (ground up shells from shellfish) that works its way in between the exoskeleton of the insect and dries it out, literally ~ which ultimately kills the little bugger. You can try that in your yard. Ultimately, you will need a monthly flea preventative for all your pets to deter infestation. You will also need to treat the interior of your home ~ I use commercial foggers and follow up with thorough vacuuming to remove eggs. Never trust a commercial product to kill the eggs ~ these little buggers were designed to withstand a nuclear blast, I swear. I also have a flea infested neighbor dog as well as a thriving feral cat population ~ but my creatures remain flea free with the monthly preventative, regular vacuuming and I typically "bomb" the house whenever we go on vacation (twice a year, basically).
