Without the OS, it gives a lot of wiggle room. I've made a part list for you. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=23292787 Cooler Master HAF 912 BIOSTAR TH67+ Intel i3 2120 XFX Radeon HD 6770 Kingston 8GB DDR3 1333 SeaSonic S12II 620W Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB Lite On DVD Drive The i3 performs better in games and single threaded applications. In some cases, it may have a 10-20 FPS increase over the Phenom X4 series and a slight increase over the FX 4100. Overclocking will only give the Phenom a slight increase in FPS - a few at most.

If it's between the FX 4100 vs. AMD Phenom II x4 - choose the Phenom for sure. The AMD 965 is $125 and it outperforms the FX 4100 by a mile. However, between the three you listed - the i3 2100 is the highest performance. However, I would still consider the Phenom II x4 for these two reasons: 1. Ability to overclock to get better performance then the i3. 2. 4 cores for programs that support 4 cores. For a $650 budget you should be able to get a GPU that's much better then an HD 6670. I would check with the HD 6770 or GTX 550 Ti. Also, you're going to want 4gb or 8gb of RAM. Three sticks of 2gb won't run in dual channel, and you'll have a bit less performance. I'll throw up a part configuration for you in a bit.

When choosing motherboard you want to make your decision there if you want AMD OR INTEL. Make sure when you are choosing a PSU you choose the right wattage. 500w to 600w Dvd/Cd drive? But other than that get some heat sink solution and you be ready to roll.
