What's the best PC out there?

Whats the best graphics card I can upgrade to with my PC?

  • I was wondering what graphics card would be best to upgrade to in order to improve Performance & be compatible with my PC. I currently have a GeForce 8500 GT Motherboard - MS-7358 Intel Core 2 Duo E 6750 - 2.66 GHZ 4GB DDR2 pc2-6400 (the best available for my motherboard) I have a program called SIW which tells me about my PCI slot but as a novice its very hard to interpret, and ive looked inside and thats no help. Any advise on this will also be welcome Ive been told I should buy a new PC but thats out of the question at the moment. To give an example, I can play shogun 2 on all low settings but as per several sites my ram is more then good enough, my processor is good enough its just my graphics card which is poor, im not expecting miracles but being able to play on medium graphics would be great.

hi adam your motherboard is made by microstar international and the good news is it has a 1st generation pci-express x16 slot.... however dont be worried by the first generation statement... this slot will support all pci-express x16 compliant graphic cards and even those that support the latest pci-express x16 v3.0 .. what happens when you use a card that supports pci-express x16 v2.1 for example is it will run at the speed of your motherboard pci-express x16 slot and in your case thats v1.0 ( or 4gb/sec ) as you have discovered the geforce 8500gt is pretty old now and struggles with more recent games such as shogun 2.... and with that in mind i recommend the "Asus 1GB Radeon HD 6770 DIRECTCU"( http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/52273/Asus-1GB-Radeon-HD-6770-DIRECTCU-DIRT3?utm_source=brianthesnail ) ... this is a excellent card for the price and will run all the latest games at maximum detail and resolution... and since your cpu and memory are pretty good you shouldnt experience any bottlenecks the HD6770 also supports direct x11 so you can experience the latest in graphic technology such as tesselation and depth of field ..... if you would prefer to stick with a nvidia card then i would recommend the "Gainward Graphics Card GeForce GTS 450 2GB PCI-E HDMI DVI VGA "( http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Product/51900/Gainward-Graphics-Card-GeForce-GTS-450-2GB-PCI-E?utm_source=brianthesnail ) ... this is another impressive card and will also improve your gaming performance ..... both cards require a 450w ( minimum ) power supply with 30A or more on the +12v rails.. and a 6pin pci-e power connector is also needed.... but dont worry if you dont have one since both cards come with a adapter .. i hope this helps adam.. any questions let me know good luck mate !

If upgrading your GFX card, you might well need to upgrade your Power Supply Unit also as more powerful cards require more juice :) Sorry this doesn't answer your question but it is something worth considering. This .pdf might be of some help to you also: http://217.110.237.70/Manuals/7358-engl%20v1.0%20-%20MS-7358%20for%20Medion.pdf All the best :)
