How to watch movies in camcorder?

Need information regarding transferring camcorder VHS tapes DVDs?

  • Here is what I would like to transfer: VHS tapes (from a 1988 camcorder that taped directly to VHS tape) to DVDs; mini-DVD camcorder microcassettes to DVDs; and small/mini cassettes used with a converter inside a larger camcorder, to DVDs. I would like to know what my best option would be, but quality finished product is important to me, as well. I have quite a few VHS tapes, as well as a lot of mini-DVD tapes (and do not want to spend a fortune on asking someone else to copy). Currently, I can watch my VHS movies on a VCR, and the mini-cassettes on my camcorder. However, I have no way of playing back the small cassette (that was placed in a compact disc) to tape on, or view with, a VCR camcorder. I would like to make about three copies for myself and family. What store would be the best to contact for on-going information/tech support regarding equipment, cables needed, etc.? I might add thatI am computer/Internet savvy, and have been recording on video camcorders for many years. I also have burned info onto CDs from computer, so when providing technical information, I can distinguish between a CD and DVD, and its uses. I have never transferred VHS or mini-DVDs or cassettes onto a DVD before, and the cables and/or recommended computer software needed for the project is what information I am seeking. There are many companies that sell so much computer-related software and cables, I get brain fog. Thanks for your suggestions.

Seems like your best option would be to purchase a Video Capture Card. These devices connect to a computer via USB; and record Analog- outputs with an AV cable (Red- Yellow- White) video from your VCR or sometimes directly from the camcorder. I recommend the Pinnacle Dazzle Video Recorder, which you can get for about $30 online. It comes with included software and is fairly easy to use. You can then edit the files on your computer accordingly (If you want) and burn it to a DVD. The program can guide you through this process. I Hope this helps!

I am not sure what you mean by "mini-DVD camcorder microcassettes to DVDs" -"a lot of mini-DVD tapes" I assume that you are referring to mini DV tapes. The DV tapes are already digital and can be captured to your computer via firewire from your DV camcorder. The other stuff is analogue and can be captured using a Pinnacle "Dazzle" capturing device or something similar. You would hook up your VCR to the dazzle device to do this. Once the files are on your computer you can edit them as you like and then publish your projects to DVD. As for the compact VHS you had better use your internet skilsl to see if you can find a container to fit the cassetes and put it into your into your VHS so you can capture them as well.

Go get a DVD recorder, a stack of blank DVDs and hook your devices together, that is all these place that charge you big bucks to transfer is doing. Hook your device to the DVD recorder, put a blanl DVD into the DVD recorder, press record on the DVD recorder and play on the source device and let the exchange happen. Helps if you hook a TV to the DVD recorder, to monitor your input. When done, finalize the DVD and you can now watch that DVD on most any DVD player. A DVD recorder is the modern day version of a VHS recorder, only instead of tapes, it uses DVDs. You can hook it your cable , record shows, set timer to record shows on certain channels, etc.
