Why does my computer shut down automatically?
-
Recently, I've been having some troubles with my computer. I'm a multi-tasker and a teacher and like to have many of my essential programs open at the same time while lesson planning. I usually have itunes open, word, a video on, and several pdf files open. Before you jump the gun and assume that you've figured out my problem, I look at my CPU usage, it stays around 5% consistently and physical memory stays around 35-40% on average. I also have 4GB of RAM memory and my computer has only just began acting up. I've had it for 2 years and I've always treated it in this way.

Is your computer a desktop or laptop? If it's a laptop, it may be overheated. Turn it off, let it cool, and place a cooling pad under it. If it doesn't work, send it in for repair. If it's a desktop, send it in for repair if it's under warranty. If its off the warranty, you can still send it in, but it will cost you. If you don't want to send it in for repair, get a new one. My laptop automatically shut down because it was overheated, but with the cooling pad it doesn't. Or do the 3 questions: 1. Is there any new software on your computer? If yes, uninstall the software. 2. Has it been set to shut down after a few minutes? If yes, disable the shut down settings. 3. Has any new hardware been installed? If yes, disable or uninstall it.

run the chkdsk on the command promt and dont run itunes with a video on it eats your computer power. clean your computer most likely its over heating. or you have a power worm(take your computer to a tech store to fix that because almost no one save professionals know how to fix that virus) and honestly multitasking is not that good with 4GB of ram and your hard drive probably has bad sectores for the OS so run the HDD checking it will check and try to fix the bad sectors :) i have had the same problem

Worst case scenario: you have a virus or you are getting hacked somehow. Or maybe you haven't restarted after your updates and you computer does it for you. You should take it to the place you got it from and get it checked , for free if you have your warranty . If that doesn't answer you question then i'm sorry :/
2 years? Do you clean its registry or optimize your PC? Should download an optimizer so that your PC will run normally because it will crash sometimes not because of too much space but due to several programs running at the same time. If you say your PC can handle it before. Just try cleaning the registry and defrag your hard disk, it may fix the error. Windows 7 have that feature.

This could be a software or a hardware issue. First and #1: have you recently installed anything new? If so uninstall it and see if this issue continues. It could be a compatibility issue. And #2: check to make sure you (or someone) don't have a power setting set on your Windows for the computer to shut down after x-minutes. Someone may have done this to your computer being a smart alec. Go into Power settings and make sure the hard disk isn't set to power off. For hardware: It could be a RAM chip going bad, it could be your MOBO going bad, or it could be your heat sinc. For software: It could be a virus, it could be corruption in Windows. For the virus you need to scan it for spyware, malware, worms, etc. For Windows, when was the last time you installed your windows updates or the latest Service Patches for windows? You need to get it healthy with updates. IF it is updated, then it may just need to be completely reinstalled to get rid of the corruption. If this were my computer: I'd start with 1 and 2 above. Then I'd scan for virus'. I'd update my PC with the latest windows and if that didn't fix it I'd do a fresh install of Windows. If after all of that, i still had the issue, then I'd begin looking at hardware problems. If you happen to have a 3yr warranty, put this issue in the hands of the technical spt staff of your PCs manufacturer as that's what warranties are for.

OK When Windows XP encounters a serious error it automatically re-boots the computer. The best thing to do is to turn off automatic re-boots so that you have the chance to see any error messages being displayed, which you can use to further troubleshoot the problem. To prevent automatic restarts, follow these steps: 1/. Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. 2/. Click Advanced and under Startup and Recovery, click Settings. 3/. Untick the option Automatically restart. 4/. Click OK > OK. Now with Automatic restart cancelled you should receive an error report, which will help you to find out what hardware/software is causing the restarts.
