Can I legally upload videos to my website?
-
To compete with my competitors selling a specific product, I need a couple videos to promote it. Is there anywhere I can find some of these videos and legally upload them on my own website? I own my website and pay for web hosting. I can make a video but I don't know much about doing it. I though I would check with some of you savvy, wonderful yahoo community people for help. Thanks in advance guys.

Answer:
you can legally upload video that you made or video that is royalty free to you website legally. If you want to host your own video, it will take up quite a bit of bandwidth. Most likely your hosting company will ask you to upgrade to a more expensive plan like VPS. If you want to avoid you can host your video on youtube and embedded it in your website

If you use over generalization its impossible to understand. Lets say you were selling Nike Shoes. And you want to put a Nike Shoe commerical on your website. Can you do that? No. You need to license the Show Commerical from nike to use it to advertise on your website. You can either make your own advertisement for your website \ or hire someone to do it for you. If you want to hire someone go to http://jobs.freelanceswitch.com/ And post a job, and look at the potential offers. Or do it your self with Windows Movie Maker or Wax 2.0 http://www.debugmode.com/wax/

Depends on what market and niche you are talking about. There are TONS of ways to make totally free videos. animoto.com is a big one...if you feel uncomfortable showing your face and talking...you can make an animation here and upload it to your site. Windows Live Movie Maker allows you to upload your images and audio into different styles...so you could make a promotional video that way. You could also just record something..and upload to YouTube...that way you have views on your site....but also you can gain a YouTube following which a lot of businesses find very profitable. All other videos like tutorial and tech videos usually are not open source and require you to pay. Also...if you "dont know much about doing it" ....well LEARN!!! If you really want to compete...you gotta just get out there and figure it out...like they all did. Hope this helps and good luck!

If you own the copyright of the video, of course you can upload it to your site. Otherwise, you must get the permission of the owner of it. It's highly recommended to upload the video to a video site (e.g. youtube) then embed it into your site to save traffic.
