  I guess the approch all depends on what type of girl she is, is she shy? Outgoing? If she's more on the outgoing side, you should make the first move in a subtle way when she alone. Maybe she's excels at certain subjects in school, you can go up to her and say that you heard she' s very good at that particular subject and wanted to know if she can help you study in the library because you're having a "difficult time" with the class. The library is a great place to get to know her, it's quiet and you won't have to worry about her friends hogging her attention. The same approach can be used if she's shy as well, however you may want to involve one or two of her friends and one or two of yours.
