Renewing Philippine passport in Tokyo?
-
My passport is about to expire and I'll be going to the embassy in Tokyo to get my first e-passport. I renewed it in 2007 right before they switched to digital. Is there a dress code for women for passport photo like color, collar, sleeve, hairstyle, eyeglasses etc. Theres no info in the embassy website and I dont want to be sent home because of what I'm wearing. Dont worry its too cold for sleeveless so I'll be decently dressed. I would also appreciate info on the fees for renenwal of passport. The rate is in $60 so does it mean they will accept currency other than Yen or will the fee depend on the daily exchange rates? Hope you can shed some light on this, hopefully people who have just renewed theirs recently. I'm sorry you feel that you have to spoon feed me information. I'm sorry for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer my question...but I thought thats what this forum is for. I was hoping to get some answers from the Filipino community in Japan, some do's and dont's since its not everyday I have to make a trip to Roppongi... maybe ask if they know some places near the embassy where I can get some delicacies from home. Maybe if I call the embassy they can recommend a nice carenderia that serves pansit and lumpia, merikanong manok, adobong baka nga westerner, maybe even give me the number for a balut tindero.

Answer:
There may not be a website but I bet you that the embassy has a phone. Want to avoid an extra trip? Get the information straight from the horse's mouth and there won't be any surprises. That is NOT to say that someone on here might not be able to help. But there is no way that I would make such trip from my house into Osaka based on hearsay.

Dont bother calling the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo . All you get is a recording and when you press 0 to speak to the operator, they say "All operators are busy please try to call again later". Biometric passport pictures are now taken at the embassy. There is no need to bring passport photos when applying. They will take it live when you file therefore, personal appearance is required They accept online application and scheduling of appointment confirmed by e-mail. Print out the application form and submit to the embassy with your current passport, copies of your passport (data page) birth certificate (certified true copy) and a self addressed LetterPack 500 ( buy from Post Office or convenience stores for 500yen) http://tokyo.philembassy.net/pponline/ Price is JPY5,820 and they do not accept currency other than Yen. As for dress code, there is no specific color you have to avoid, the background of the photo will be in royal blue, so I suggest a lighter color, men are required to wear shirts with collar. They will ask you to remove eyeglasses and big flashy earrings and other accessories, I suggest you wear light makeup and minimal eyeshadow (you dont want to look like a panda), remember you will have to use that passport for 5 years... For places to eat, there are people distributing fliers for translation and legal services, discount freight companies (balikbayan box) that deliver packages from Tokyo to the Philippines, and of course restaurants and sari-sari stores around the vicinity of the embassy. I suggest you post questions in the Philippines category, at least there you know that Filipinos answer your questions, not sarcastic foreigners who think they know everything about Japan.

Like Threeday said, call up the embassy and ask - It is the best way forward. These days you can email (i have done this myself) so there is no excuse. You might get an answer on here that my turn out to be wrong. Even better you could walk up there and ask a member of staff
