Tips on highschool cheerleading?

  • ok so im 14. im still an 8th grader...but in a few months i will be in highschool and a freshman(dear god), and i wanted to try out for cheerleading in highschool. Any tips? Im learning how to do a backhandspring this summer, i know how to do a right and left herky, a right and left hurdler, a pike jump, star jump, and ive tried doing a toetouch many times...and can do one, just not perfect (that goes for the jumping part), i can do the basic flying ( elevator, extension, and cradle), i can front spot to. but i dont know how to base and ive never back spotted before...will that be a problem? and i can do cartwheels, roundoffs, and well....kicks. Do you think i will have a good chance of making the team...and anyother tips?

How are your motions and facials? That's REALLY what coaches are looking for in cheerleaders. But the things you listed increase your odds a lot. Just practice smiling in front of a mirror and make sure your motions are tight and sharp. Making the team probably won't be a problem for you! Good Luck and I hope you make it!

work on motions and enthusiasm and smiles. not knowing the other positions for stunting isnt a big deal if they need you in a different spot they will teach you just be open to it. also work on projecting your voice. besides that you should be great and have no problem making the team. good luck :D
