Why does the US support Israel (Non-religious answers please)?

  • Hello, I was born a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon, I am agnostic and liberal, but knowing my family's history makes me dislike Israel the same way an Armenian dislike Turkey. The thing is that I don't understand why such a great country as the US supports Israel that much... At the beginning I'll refute all the typical biased answers people may have, firstly the Palestinian case is not an Islamic one, it is humanitarian, in fact now the Christian population in the historic Palestine area is 5% unlike the 40% before Israel came to exist. The second thing is that it is true that there was no nation named Palestine, however the term Palestinian correctly describes a person that lived there for hundreds of years and who was forcedly kicked out. Secondly, the ethnic thing doesn't work too, Palestinians speak Arabic that doesn't mean they come from Arabia in fact, Palestinian/Lebanese/Syrian people look more like Jews or Mediterraneans than Arabian Saudis. They were Islamized and Arabized over time. Why does US not care about illegal settlements in what remains in Palestine? why don't they tell the historical truth. As a country I respect Israel's achievements but an apology or acceptance of the real situation would be accepted by Palestinians... Why should there be a purely Jewish state in such a modern world where people of all backgrounds, beliefs, opinions and even sexual orientation should work to coexist? Why do people justify Israel by the historical fact that ancient Hebrews used to live there when it is very frequent in that age to have population changes??Simply why does the US support Israel that much and doesn't look for Palestinians' situation while it tries to help everyone else in the world (Albanians, etc..)?

    US Christians believe their Bible tells them that Israel must belong to the Jews in order to get their Christ Jesus to return. They also believe the joke will be on Israel when their Christ Jesus sends all the Jews to Hell.

The US supports Israel because it is the only democratic country in the region. The reason we need a Jewish state in this day and age is because the Jews have always been scapegoats for many different peoples. People in modern day Germany could say the same thing about a Jewish state in 1936. The Palestinians can find land anywhere with their Arab counterparts.Why do they need the space already taken ? Of course all Semites look alike.That includes both Jews and Arabs. Israel only responds to war fare aimed at them. They have never started a war.The countries surrounding Israel have bombed supermarkets and religious places with out reason. The Palestinians know that Israel will strike back. I am sorry for your difficult childhood.Try looking at the problem from the other side. I hope that you can. Be well.

If you are really asking a question about why people support Israel, alleging that you are going to "refute" answers they might have doesn't really seem to fit with asking a question. PS: Palestine comprises all of today's Israel + West Bank + Gaza + Jordan. While you may (or may not) be right about the percentage of Christians in "palestine," it is telling that in areas under Israeli control, the number of Christians has INCREASED but Christians are being ethnically cleansed from all areas under Muslim control in the West Bank and Gaza. Don't take my word for it. Google: palestinian Christian persecution and just scroll through result after result.
