My friend is applying for a job at a bank, but has stolen from two previus jobs; what should I do?
-
Okay, so here's the deal: my friend Aaron is twenty years old. Recently he quit his job at a local convenience store (QuikCheck) before they could fire him for stealing cartons of cigarettes. Just recently, his father had told me that he had stolen money out of cash registers at two other previous jobs when he was younger at Super Markets and did the same thing - quit before they could fire him and/or press charges. Now, I just found out he is applying for a bank position. Clearly he has a problem with stealing money and other expensive items at his place of work. I don't want him to be put in a position where he is tempted to steal more money (at a bank) because when you steal from a bank its a big deal.. that's jail time. I almost feel like I have an obligation to inform the bank that he's applying for of these past situations. I feel they have a right to know and I also don't want him to screw up and be sent to jail. But, he's my friend. What would you do in this situation?! Please help! Thank you!!

Answer:
Although your intentions are good, you need to stay out of it. It is NONE of your business!!!! If this guy is going to continue to steal then he needs to pay the consequences and if it takes him going to jail to learn his lesson so be it. You know the saying "you play you pay". The only think you can do is tell how you feel and your concerns and then drop it.

They aren't going to hire him. If he doesn't list his previous jobs, then he won't have the experience to be hired and I doubt he has the education either. If he does list those jobs the bank will contact them and get the whole story. Let it go, it's not your problem.

If he makes it past an interview, the bank will do background checks and will call his previous employers and references. So you don't have to do anything.

Ask his father if he has talked to the son about this bad habit. You will not score points with anyone by bringing the subject up with the son.
Confront him about it, ask him why he steal things, ask him to stop, if he doesn't stop,... you will have to call the police and let the police catch him red handed
if he gets to get an interview-then i wud make a discrete ph call n tell them. and he sounds like hz goin to get caught anyhow-hope hz n0t pretty he wil find jail unkind
Until you go to Employment Tribunal and win your case you will still have a record of gross misconduct - you were working under an apprenticeship and should have accepted the way you were being treated as they are above you and can hire and fire when they want, nothing you can do about appealing against the withdrawal from NHS as they have to work to the rules Your Tribunal case could take anything up to 2 years and they will check with all your previous employers to make you out the liar - partner just won his case, Good Luck
