What is a powerful insecticide?

Can anyone recommend an effective long lasting insecticide that annihilates clothes eating insects?

  • im 34 live in a council flat in the uk......i have an obsessive thoughts condition which is torture to live with. the disorder makes me think i need a lot of material possessions and that, every material possession has to be perfect. and im on a low income and cant afford many material possessions, so it makes my condition torture to live with. over 6 months ago, to my horror i discovered t shirts, boxers shorts with clusters of small round holes in them...the type of hole a sharp pencil could make in a piece of fabric. i discovered that it was the domestic beetles and their larvae, id seen in my flat for years, but never really took action against......they were the culprit. i dont think it was clothes moths eating my clothes because ive never ever seen any clothes moths. ever since, i have tried to take measures, precautions and do something about it. wrapping precious clothes and t shirts in plastic bags, bin bags, using raid insecticide spray spraying in the borders of my carpet..........since doing that, ive not noticed any holes in the new clothes.. but i still get paranoid about it, when i look at some of my old t shirts with the small round holes in....it worries me.....and i think what if the insects comeback?..........oh no. so id appreciate if anyone in britain could recommend a long lasting effective insecticide i could buy online? that could devastate these insects for a long time? i do through moth balls into the plastic bags that some of my precious clothing is in to. so my questions are , am i taking all the measures i can? and can you recommend and effective insecticide i could get online?

  • Answer:

if you feel you need to use a chemical, use a moth ball made from Paradichlorabenzine rather than naphthalene...(PDCB) actually kills while the other only repels, but a better way is to clean all the clothing that attracts the dermestids stored in the closet and after cleaning store in air tight containers. Totes that the handles lock down and zipper bags are not air tight.

It sounds like classic clothes moths to me. The moths themselves are rarely seen. The clothes moths larvae feed on keratin protein, which is found in natural fibres including silk, leather, wool and cashmere. Unfortunately, this usually results in your most expensive and precious items of clothing being ruined. Here are some tips to help you remove the source of the problem, and prevent further clothing damage: 1. REMOVE - Remove your clothes from the affected wardrobe, drawers or cupboards and vacuum really thoroughly paying attention to edges, cracks and crevices. Vacuum carpets and skirting boards in the affected room 2. CLEAN - Clean all clothes that may be affected and consider spraying your woollen clothes with Aries or Orphea clothes protector sprays to deter moths 3. KILL - Spray the affected storage unit to kill any eggs and / or larvae – either Oa2ki organic powder spray or the Fortefog Protector Aerosol moth killer sprays as effective solutions 4. DETER - Use either fast-acting moth killer deterrents, cedar wood or anti-moth natural sachets , depending on your preference, to stop moths returning. For expensive garments we suggest considering our storage solutions . 5. MONITOR and PREVENT - Place moth traps close to affected areas to monitor for adult moths and to break the breeding cycle. Keep deterrents current and replace every 3 to 6 months
