How long do sunburns usually last?

Do you ever get "immune" to sunburns?

  • The reason I ask is because my new job requires for me to be outside from around 2PM-10PM, and the sun is usually out until around 7PM. I sunburn very easily, and I'm just wondering if after long enough I will grow an "immunity" to sunburns, or if they will just take a lot longer to develop then 5 hours in the sun 5 days a week. Is there anything I can do besides apply suntan lotion? I really hate using suntan lotion, however, if it's the only option, I guess it'll have to do, because I hate sunburns more. Thanks for any help.

  • Answer:

No, you need the lotion, the problem is, your skin, and cells adjusts, but that's also the adjustment that causes skin-cancer, so you NEED to protect yourself. So if you're at risk for sunburn, cover up, use the lotion, use a subtle spray-tan to get a healthy glow.

You never get immune to them. Your skin can begin to darken and tan versus burning. The only "immunity" I know of is that the burning sensation subsides and the pain is easier to deal wit, and that's more of you getting used to it. You can wear long sleeves, make sure you have a hat on, and instead of using suntan lotion, use sun block, which will repel the sun versus amplifying it to bring about a tan. A lightweight white long sleeve cotton shirt will protect your arms though.

Sun block is terrible for your skin. It blocks everything the sun does to you, including giving you vitamin d, so by blocking that out it raises chances for skin cancer. Eat healthier more real foods, stay away from greasy sugar filled foods and let you skin build up a tan. That's how it always used to be done hundreds of years ago, they never heard of skin cancer
