What time do you normally go to bed?

  • AND HOW CAN I GO TO BED EARLIER?? PLZ READ BELOW I go to a private school and I carpool, so I have to be walking out the door at 6:55 AM. Normally, I don't go to bed until 11:30. I listen to my ipod/think until about 12...I fall asleep at 12 basically. I just can't go to bed earlier...no matter how hard I try. I'll always get caught up in a tv show, or get caught up on something on my computer, or study for a test, or push my homework off to the side. Writing in a journal helps me relax...it's kind of addicting for me. So even when I make an effort to be in bed at 10:15-10:30, I'll end up writing in a journal until 11:30. It's something I love and would like to make part of my routine, but I just end up going to bed too late. I yawned like 20 times today, and I had 3 teachers tell me to get more sleep. I've never fallen asleep in class or anything, so that's good. But how can I train my body to go to bed earlier? btw don't say no computer or tv an hour before bed. Sometimes I gotta do my hw on the computer, and also my favorite tv show is on from 8-10 on Tuesdays.

  • Answer:

It's not actually lack of sleep. It's too much computer. Using the computer/internet alot damages your HYPOTHALAMUS - this is the part of your brain that controls memory / concentration... When you use the internet, you are constantly distracted by ads/links/social updates etc etc etc etc.... You develop a short term memory/concentration. Your hypothalamus 'shrivels up'. TV also sucks for the hypothalamus. Healthier/concentrated/enthusiastic students are those who can read a book all the way through, have great concentration because they have a HEALTHY hypothalamus. Unfortunately no one really cares about this atm, but trust me, the effects are starting to show in society as the kids turn into the adults... If you want a healthier brain / active concentration and more energy in general, you should try doing things like sport or reading. Both help train your hypothalamus to become stronger and better at FOCUSING at ONE task for ONE LONG period of time. If you sit down and try to read, but think of googling something/checking your fb, then this is definitely your problem.
