Is it worth going to UC Berkeley?

Would someone like me, ever have a shot at going to Columbia, NYU, Brown or UC Berkeley?

  • I am a senior and I will graduate with a 2.7 gpa. i've taken little to no honors classes, gotten bad grades, was taking a remedial math class my junior year and haven't done much extracurriculars either. However I obtained a 2070 on my SAT without any studying, but It was too late to apply to UC's or any college since I didn't meet the A--G requirements. Given my financials, that was all I could afford. I was a lazy high school student who never tried in high school and there was a two year time period my freshman and sophomore year I had a severe drug usage, along with my parents. However hearing about all of my classmates acceptances make me hate myself so much for not trying, I mean I got a 780 in my writing section, that's almost a perfect score, realizing my lost potential just makes me wonder ... Do I still have a shot to transfer to a school like Columbia, Brown, NYU or UC Berkeley for my undergrad? I know for the UC's, you do the annual two years of CC, but I heard the first two years of four year are the best and the last two are the most stressful, so is there a chance I could obtain admission after one year? What do I need to do?I would be willing to start out as a freshman, even though I would be a transfer. Don't tell me undergrad doesn't matter and just go to state school, because even though your masters is the one that really matters in terms of education and your career, but I feel undergrad is your time period of growth, the school and environment you're in will affect your step into adulthood. So please, any help. and sorry for this rambling mess I've written that probably completely contradicts my claim about my SAT score.

  • Answer:

No. They want students who are not risks to them. Your work ethic and your SATS tell them you are smart but a risk. They don't want that. You need to work to get high grades go to community college or a small university and get good grades there and see what happens from there on out. Then apply to a more major one for your final degree unless the small one you went to has it.
