Have any of you used Rosetta Stone to learn a language? Should I use it?
-
I have been thinking about buying Rosetta Stone for Mandarin, the Level 1,2,3,4,5 for $399 for business purposes later in life. I am also thinking about Spanish. 1) Have you used Rosetta Stone's products, and will they help me speak the language fluently or at least efficiently? 2) What language would be the most practical to learn for business purposes? I think Mandarin and possibly Spanish.

Answer:
Rosetta Stone is fine for casual learning, but not at a business level. It focuses on pictures and simple concepts. I speak Italian and the high-end Italian version is what you hear in middle schools. It surely isn't suited for business, but it will give you the basics. For business you will want to be able to read and write in it as well. Think how valuable you will be if you can create visual presentations. As for use it depends on the region. Are you interested in the US/South America? Spanish. Are you interested in Africa, West Europe, and Canada? French. Are you interested in Eurasia? Russian. Are you interested in Asia? Mandarin.

Yeah.. I have it I think.. it was pretty much useless, I learned to speak Korean from my ex gf... So I think the best way to learn is to mingle with them, you'll be forced eventually.
