Which college major would help me with Critical Thinking most?

Thinking about my college plans! Please help!?

  • I'm a sophomore, African American, 14, and I'm currently thinking about my college plans. I'm in the Atlanta area. I would say I'm an above average student but not totally genius though, I'm planning on applying to colleges like Georgia tech, Emory, duke, Stanford, and Clemson I'm very interested in science and dance Freshman year I had a 3.88 and I took advanced physics, along with integrated math, lit, world geo, civics, and French and band. Sophomore year so far I have a 90 in math, 90 in lit, 88 in honors chem, 82 in AP world (without extension), 99 in French. I take band and journalism as my electives what's my GPA on a 4.0 scale AND what is it unweighted and weighted? Junior year I'll be having advanced integrated math, AP lang AP Biology, AP us, French, band, and early childhood education or college physics Senior year I plan on taking AP calculus, AP literature, AP environmental, AP psychology, AP macroeconomics, band, French, and an elective maybe early childhood 2. Predicted gpa's (hopefully) By the end of sophomore year: 3.7-3.8 Junior:3.8 Senior:3.7-3.8 My SAT score that I've taken recently was a 1800 Extracurriculars by the end of senior year Competitive dancer Key club National honor's society Band Dance teacher to younger students What good chances do I have at getting into these colleges? What are your suggestions for improving my resume? What's holding me back? What other colleges will I maybe successful in being admitted in? Thanks a lot, it's just been on my mind for a while now.

I think you have a pretty good shot, because your class schedule is anything but easy. Your GPA may be holding you back a little bit though, so I would work on getting that to be the highest it can be. In regards to your SAT score, I'm not very familiar with how well you did, because in the area I live in ACT scores are bigger, so I can't really help you out there. You are only a sophomore though, so I would suggest taking it again, and using study books if need be. They definitely helped me get my ACT score up, and saved me the money of paying a tutor. And again, this is only if it needs to be brought up. For your extracurriculars, I would suggest just getting involved in everything you can, and also looking to hold positions of leadership. Not only will this greatly help your resume, but it can also gain you some scholarships based on leadership. Go money! If you have time, you might also want to consider a part-time job, to show that you're well-rounded. But if you don't have time, it's not a make-it-or-break-it moment. Stick with the dance, since that's what you plan on doing. If you don't want a job, you could also intern, especially if it's in an dance or scientifical area. That would definitely help your resume. Another great resume booster is community service. Colleges love to see students who are involved in their community, so volunteer every chance you get! Also, since you know what colleges you're looking to attend, I would check out their websites and see if they have any suggestions or requirements you need to meet. Also, get in touch with a representative. There's nothing colleges love more than people who show inititiave and interest!!! I would also make sure that those colleges offer the majors you want, because that is definitely a deciding factor. I think it's really interesting that you like science and dance, because those are on two opposite ends of the spectrum. What do you want to do with that? PS, you should definitely look forward to AP Calc. Best math class you will ever take. I hope this helped :) good luck, and keep working hard!
