Ultrasound Sonographer or Medical Technician better chances for PA school?
-
My goal is to get into PA school but I don't want to get a degree in Biology because if I don't get into PA school there's no jobs out there with just a bachelors in bio. My school has a dual program where I would do three years of biology and the fourth year you choose whether you want to go into clinical lab sciences or the sonography field. I'm now in my third year and need to decide which path to choose. I see my self doing both if I don't get into PA school, but I was wondering if anyone knows which one does PA school value the most, and which one increases my changes of getting into a PA program.

Neither. These ten things really matter from most to PA admissions. 1) Prereq GPA, PA admissions are really interested in how you did in the required courses. 2) Science GPA, PA admissions are looking for how you did in science-related classes since you plan on going into a science field. 3) Cumulative GPA, PA admissions are interested in how you did overall. 4) Any W's, F's, or D's, how many did u get, if any and why? 5) Previous Healthcare Experience, 6) Knowledge of the PA profession, 7) Ranking of you undergraduate university, Top tier, tier 2, or tier 3. 8) Difficulty of your Undergraduate major, Bio, Chem, Physics, unlike MD schools, PA schools actually prefer a student to major in a science-related field, most applicants do, Roughly 90% of admitted students are bio majors. 9) Work experience, doesn't really have to be in a science/health field, if you work it just shows admissions you have experience of working with and interacting with people in the real world. 10) Your essay/GRE-scores if applicable, your essay gives admissions insight into what type of person you are, and GRE scores can determine what kind of test taker you are. Being an MT or an ultrasound tech will Not look more favorable than an ER volunteer. What Really matters is grades and your character and your will and drive to become a PA. Goodluck
