Why do people considered the treatment of women so bad in Islam but forget how we treated women until the 60's?

  • Many of the practices of how women and men would approach/interact each other were the same Attire was similar from the mid 1900's on back or atleast the same message was conveyed dress modest You were never alone with a female who was not family and you would barely if ever see someones daughters unless you knew the family very well Women didn't travel by themselves with male family Women damn sure wouldn't stay in a hotel those who did were considered whores Unmarried women stayed with their families and usually did not live alone Women who lived together on their own who were not related were considered prostitutes and the dwellings brothels Doing any of those above might not get you stoned but would get you shunned by the community, banished by family or forced into a convent in the old days Boy and girl only schools (which we still have but most are private though some public schools have boy and girl only classes) The Amish do almost everything listed now in the present except for a few things Im doing this for an anthropology paper and need educated non bigoted answers and I'am not Muslim Steven : "What you are saying is dishonest. You'd be surprised how freeing it is to know that I may be shunned, or talked badly about, or put in jail, but I won't be killed for my independent ways. Humans can take a lot of punishment and it only goads them on! Considering that, is it any surprise that western women fought like wildcats to get where we are now? The difference is the absence of the death penalty for "naughty" behaviors like picketing and traveling alone. It makes all the difference in the world.

What you are saying is dishonest. There were plenty of female doctors and other professionals before 1960. It is well known that American women are no happier on average now than they were in the 1950s. Feminists changed all that by pushing for "no fault" divorce such that now women can not be sure that a man would support her forever.
