What Song Should I sing In the Talent Show?

What song to sing for talent show auditions? (phantom song or what???)?

• So i was in the school play, and I had a four line solo that got a bunch of compliments from a bunch of people... and I think I have a good voice (i hate saying that because i don't want to sound like a prissy stuck-up jerk girl) I didn't sign up for the talent show (I forgot) but the people running it must have seen the play or something. So my audition is next Thursday if I decide to do it... If I do do it, I don't know what song I'd sing. I'd want it to be something different, that people would remember the next day. Something that would show off the talent I apparently have. I don't really know how to define my range... that confuses me because I haven't really publicly tried to go super high, but the highest I've gone publicly and not failed for at least a measure or two was a high F on the scale. I was thinking of singing something from Phantom of the Opera, like "Think of Me," (from the 25th anniversary version... its the only version ive seen but i think its different lyrics idk) but I don't know if I can go that high; I don't really sing in front of people if I don't have to, so I don't "practice" for no reason unless its like quietly (or higher) in the car. When I've been alone I can sing it but I'm not sure of all the notes and words... I don't know where I could get sheet music for that version.... (links would be amazing. I also like free things with no viruses ahaha) So I really want to do that one, but I don't have the background music so I'd be a capella and such. I had the idea to play the piano, but I haven't played for around 3 years and I want to be able to walk around so no. If not that song.. then I don't know. I don't really want to do a song you'd expect, you know? Not a modern song. Something with meaning, I guess. I want to do one from a musical, really. With power. Because I also love to act and yeah. So I wasn't sure. I think "Think of Me" would be the best, but with the lyrics and everything. I have the recording of the performance on my DVR, but my family doesn't want to watch it over and over, and I'm not usually home alone long enough to sing along loud and proud ahah. I kinda need to tell my family I'm serious about it so they can help me. (my mom knows I was thinking about it and says I have a good voice, but I'm uncomfortable talking about it really... it's like I've been told I'm good but sometimes my parents seem like they don't want me to do it because of their facial expression and I get all self-concious...) So... I need help. Any advice about anything in there is awesome. Sorry if it was really long. :/

  I am a classically trained singer and I know how you feel, especially about being self-conscious when performing in front of family. However, as much as you feel uncomfortable, you should take the opportunity to perform in front of them as it will be a lot harder performing live in front of an audience (who may be even less appreciative). As for song choices, I do not really know how your voice sounds like, but if you're comfortable with Think of Me from the Phantom of the Opera, by all means, go ahead and perform that song. I have a few other suggestions too such as Defying Gravity from Wicked, Listen from Dream girls or Don't Rain on My Parade from Funny Girl. The final choice is up to you, and you should pick a song that matches your personality so that you will show the best side of you. All the best for your audition! Cheers :)
