An Atom is the basic building block for all matter. They are comprised of electrons, protons, neutrons. They look like a large sphere with the smaller ones spinning around it - like a small solar system. An Element is made of several atoms. You know how elements have numbers? Eg - Hydrogen is 1, Helium is 2...This refers to the value of the atoms in them or something (I can't remember specifically).

There are different atoms, and different elements. An atom is any element, but an element isn't just any type of atom. Ravi - you are talking about a substance, which is not simply just an element, but a combination of that element's atoms, and possibly other types of elements.

An element is a pure substance that cannot be broken down into a simpler form of matter. An atom is similar to an element since an atom is the smallest particle that retains all properties of the element.

an atom is the smallest particle in any material.. and an element is the composition of all such atoms.. for example.. the small balls in a ladu are atoms and the ladu itself is an element.. hope this was helpful.
