Who are considered family?

Why do people considered the treatment of women so bad in Islam but forget how we treated women until the 60's?

• Many of the practices of how women and men would approach/interact each other were the same Attire was similar from the mid 1900's on back or atleast the same message was conveyed dress modest You were never alone with a female who was not family and you would barely if ever see someones daughters unless you knew the family very well Women didn't travel by themselves with male family Women damn sure wouldn't stay in a hotel those who did were considered whores Unmarried women stayed with their families and usually did not live alone Women who lived together on their own who were not related were considered prostitutes and the dwellings brothels Doing any of those above might not get you stoned but would get you shunned by the community, banished by family or forced into a convent in the old days Boy and girl only schools (which we still have but most are private though some public schools have boy and girl only classes) The Amish do almost everything listed now in the present except for a few things Im doing this for an anthropology paper and need educated non bigoted answers and I'am not Muslim It has only been about 50 something years since the changes so you can not say Islam wont change as it has changed in the past. It was actually more liberal and went the conservative route whereas other religions went the opposite In reading to do a paper on this I learned that many of things people do according to Islam are not exactly apart of the Quran they are cultural practices from before Islam and they were widespread among Christians, and Jews also that lived in Arabia, Eastern Africa, and Western Asia The Quran says nothing about covering your face it says be modest and in fact the Bible and Torah say the same thing
