What can I say to a restaurant manager to get an interview?

I missed my job interview today. Can anyone help?

  • Yesterday I got a call for a job interview at 5pm today at Bob Evans. I was all ready to go, dressed, didn't expect to be late, everything! I get to the restaurant and go in for the interview. But it turns out that there are TWO Bob Evans' on the same road (I don't know what idiot did that lol), and that I had gone to the wrong one. I found this out at about 4:45. Now, I would have made it to the other Bob Evans, but it's about 10-15miles down the road (Very long road.) and my ride wasn't there. But it wouldn't have mattered if I made it or not, because if they would have offered me a job, I wouldn't be able to take it because the restaurant is too far from home, and the bus would be my main transportation to work (and it doesn't go that far.) So, I called the Bob Evans that was farther away, and it turns out that the manager was in a meeting, so they took down my information and said they'd give it to her. I haven't heard from her yet. HOWEVER, the Bob Evans that I DID show up to is hiring, and is within my reach via the bus. And just as my friend and I were leaving (she was waiting outside) the manager just happens to come outside for a smoke! He literally told me to "go into the other BE and say that I needed to make changes to my application, then just never bring it back and turn it in to his BE." Lol! So, what should I do in this situation? I'm so embarrassed about the whole thing. And I absolutely must apologize to the manager at the further Bob Evans. I feel so bad that I missed her interview! Thanks!

  • Answer:

It sounds like you had a great change of events. The closer restaurant wants you to apply and you can reach it by bus. You called the correct place to talk to the manager. You took action to explain why you did not show. If your friend will drive you there, do collect your application as instructed. Try to see if the manager is in to apologize in person. If she will not see you, don't worry about it. You tried to apologize. That is all you can do. You couldn't have accepted the job anyway. No great loss.
