What do I need to apply for a job?

What do i need to do to apply for a saturday job at age 14?

  • Im 14 and i have nearly finished doing my work experience (where you get a week without school and have to go to a work placement and be an employee and experience a working life) and the boss there has only 2 employees. One of them is 17 and she has been working there since she did her work experience (the job is hairdressing) but she went on and did hairdressing at college while working there part time. I heard the boss doing my report over the phone and she said 'I take on most of my girls that come for work experience'. Ever since i walked through the door and started working, ive began to take an interest in hairdressing, even if it is just cleaning, making tea, taking out peoples rollers/perm etc. I want to try get a saturday job there but what do i have to do to apply? do i need a form or something? I was just thinking of ringing up and saying 'Hi, i was just wondering if you had any saturday jobs available' or do i need to get a form or something? Please answer this properly, Help is appreciated.

  • Answer:

Very unlikely you'll get a job at 14 - the employer's insurance rarely covers children under 16 - but nothing lost by going along and asking, in person.
