Diagnostic Medical Sonography Florida....?

  • this year i plan on finishing up my pre reqs to apply for the sonography program at my school.... i was wondering if after getting my AA if i should get my bachelors? its part of my plan...but ive heard people say its a waist of time..... I also wanted to ask about the pay?...... i know its different depending on where you live.... i live in florida....around the tampa area..... also if you have any advice about what i can do to better my career..... like if there's a specific type of sonography it would be good to specialize in....

Unless your program requires you to have a BA or BS, it's probably not necessary. If you're going to a college with a Radiology program, then getting a BS would probably be worth the extra 2 years. However, in NY, many employers prefer someone who's not only registered, but has a BA or BS. As for specializing, it depends on what you want to do. Most people go ito OB-GYN or Abdomen. But there's also Breast, Adult Echo, Pediatric Echo, Fetal Echo, Neurosonology, Vascular and Musculoskeletal. I know some people who swore they would specialize in OB-GYN but realized during their clinicals they didn't want to do it for a living. You would have to wait until you have all your clinicals done to really decide what you want to specialize in. You can specialize in more than one area as well. The pay depends on where you live, what you specialize in, your experience and what location (public/private hospital, clinic, radiology site)
