Is an LPN job hard?

Good idea to become an LPN, then vet school while earning money? Will I have time for a job while studying?

  • I'm graduating 1 year early from highschool. Vet is the ultimate goal here. I come from a single parent household with a brother, so I don't have any financial support for education. I was thinking of living at home when I graduate and taking a Licensed Practical Nurse course. It costs $5800 (tuition, fees, books, etc) and is 12 months in length. Then moving south, getting a part time job as an LPN making around $24 (instead of Mcdonalds for half that) while doing my pre-vet studies for two years. Finally, move to Alberta (stay there for a year and work, save money and gain residency and then go into actual vet school) or apply to Saskatchewan and get my 4 year DVM degree while working. Is it worth it to get the LPN licensing and then continue to become a vet? Will I even have time to work and study? Will I be able to work in another province if I did my LPN course here?

  • Answer:

1st off, in California people at McDonalds don't get paid $12 p/hr, where ever you are, you're lucky 2nd, think carefully about jumping from human science to animal science 3rd, I worked full time and went to school full time (working toward my first degree)...I'm past 30 yrs old. If I can do it anyone can.

Personally i think it all depends on your personal schedule and the schools in your city. In some cases you can finish your RN degree in the same time as your LPN as for the same amount of money. I suggest being a CNA and getting a job at a facility where they will help you go back to school!!!
