What tricks can you do on a short longboard?

I'm trying to decide whether to get a short longboard or a skateboard. I need something that's small and portable (ex. can fit easily in my locker). I want to be able to cruise around my city, but I'd also like to be able to do some tricks. Right now I'm thinking a shorter longboard, but I'm worried I won't be able to do the types/extent of tricks I want to do. So what kind of tricks can you do on a short longboard, and what ones do you recommend? (Or do you recommend a skateboard, and if so, can it cruise a bit?)

I'd say just get a skateboard if you want to do tricks. Skateboards are totally cruise-able I cruise all day, son. If you want to make a smoother ride just get softer wheels. It's not. Gotta be over 36" for a longboard, hence the name. Length is the only thing that defines a longboard, not wheels, trucks or shape. If you have to classify it, it's a cruiser, Cruzer since it's from Santa Cruz
