Bachelor Party Camping and Activities - Near NYC?

  • Hi, I'm trying to plan a bachelor party for my best friend and a handful of guys (14 total guys - all late 20's, early 30's). We're from the NYC area and would preferably like a place that's within a few hours driving distance from us. We'd like to incorporate as many activities as possible - (Camping, Whitewater Rafting, Mountain Biking, Zip Lining and Paintball). The main thing that I'm concerned with is drinking alcohol. I found a few spots in the Poconos of PA, but they are all adamant about being a "family establishment" and do not allow alcohol. Does anyone know of a place that has a bunch of these activities and is okay with us drinking and partying? Thanks

  • Answer:

Nobody else at a campground wants to put up with a bunch of guys drinking and whooping it up around the campfire late into the night, especially not families paying $35+ per night to bring little Sally and Johnny out on their first overnight in the woods. Even at privately-owned campgrounds that permit alcohol, the management will not accept a reservation for a group of guys who want to put on a bachelor party. You might want to take a look at group campsites in NYS parks. Alcohol is permitted in NYS parks, subject to individual park restrictions, and of course always consumed responsibly. A group campsite would give you an area away from the general camping population so if you get a bit rowdy or stay up late there is less chance of complaints. Then you can make a short road-trip to whatever facilities offer the activities you want to enjoy. Whitewater rafting in the Delaware is not an all-day experience, even if you start up in Narrowsburg and float all the way down to Port Jervis. (In fact, calling it "whitewater" is stretching it a bit, as you'll rarely see a day where any section exceeds a Class I difficult rating.) But it is lengthy enough to warrant its own day on the schedule. Zip-Line and Paintball can be combined into a second day. Mountain biking is available within many NY state parks and forests, so no additional road trips will be needed. .

Rent a shelter. Hold an afternoon party. Then, cut-off the alcohol for the rest of the activities. If anyone is injured while rafting, mountain biking, zip-lining, or paintball wars, you may be liable. Alcohol mixed with outdoor adventure activities is commonly lethal. A reasonable person leading a camping trip should know that the combination is dangerous. I would certainly suit you.
