What is and how to patch ps2 games?

WTF?! PS2 games working on PS3 40GB?

  • I have a 60GB that was originally designed to play PS2 games. I heard this feature was removed with the 40GB. One of my cousins used to have a 40GB and it could not play PS2 games. Another of my cousins has a 40GB and just a few days ago we played Final Fantasy 10 for PS2 on his PS3. I thought this was impossible. By looking at the system I could tell it is not just a hard drive swap. He did not download any PS2 games from the Playstation Store. PS2 System Data only allows you to play PS2 games that require the hard drive. It does not give your PS3 the ability to play PS2 games. Can anyone explain this?

  • Answer:

You'd have to check the model number because there's no way it's not a CECHAxx (60GB), CECHBxx (80GB0 or CECHExx(80GB). The CECHG/H/Jxx 40GBs are physically incapable of playing PS2 games.
